JAST USA quests for larger audience with Aselia
November 15th, 2011, by in Release, Translation
A few days ago, JAST USA released the all-ages (15+) version of XUSE’s Aselia the Eternal, including a DRM-free download version as well. This is the first time the company has released a game without adult content, and JAST USA have suggested that other all-ages titles may be licensed in the future if Aselia performs well commercially. Upon our asking, JAST USA stated that “it’s selling quite well so far.”
When asked what the game’s target audience is, the company said they “are going to do [their] best to market it anywhere [they] can”, and are hoping that retailers who normally refuse to stock adult games will pick up interest in this title. Interestingly, they also noted that they have submitted Aselia to online game marketplace Steam, although it is currently uncertain whether the game will be accepted. -

JAST USA arranging for clean swords
January 31st, 2011, by in Translation
JAST USA announced today their plans to release a localized version of XUSE’s strategy game Aselia the Eternal. The release will be of the all-ages port of the PS2 version, included in Japanese special edition of Seinarukana, and the script will be produced by JAST USA based on English materials provided by XUSE. A complete fan translation patch of this specific version of the game has been available for some time from Dakkodango Translations, and some of the staff may work with JAST USA on images in the game, but the fan translation will specifically not be used, according to the FAQ post on JAST USA’s forums. We sat down with JAST USA employee Shingo for a little chat after the announcement and were shown a sample of the English script that XUSE had provided.
