A fan translation group has released a full translation patch for Konami’s Love Plus for the Nintendo DS. A translation project was started on TLWiki within weeks of the game’s original release in 2009, which got close to 25% of the script translated before stalling for an extended period of time. At the beginning of this year a new group picked up the project from TLWiki, moving the project to a new website and releasing numerous partial patches over the past several months as they progressed through the translation of the remaining text. The final read me lists an impressively large staff consisting of 28 translators, 5 hackers, 15 editors and 4 translation checkers, all of whom who worked on the project at some point during the last couple years.

This patch only works with the original Love Plus release of the game, as it is not compatible with the later Love Plus + release. While this is a complete translation patch, there are a couple known issues present with the release. There are a few places where the game may freeze, though one of these locations was present in the original Japanese release rather than a problem introduced by the translation team. The player may also run into some minor graphical problems, which generally can be fixed by reloading if they are encountered. The team also warns against using cheat codes, saying that the testers found that these may corrupt a save file or disable some features.

Love Plus was originally released in Japan back in 2009 and a version with added content was released with the name Love Plus + a year later. The game is a dating simulation with three heroines that is split into two major parts. The first part is what is normally seen in a dating simulation style game, with the player trying to capture the heart of one of the heroines. After being successful, this game does not end here like similar titles may end, but rather continues onwards to the open ended second half where the player dates the heroine that was chosen in the first half.

The fan translation group gokusaishiki has released a fan translation patch for the DS version of Konami’s Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side: 2nd Kiss. The translation patch needs to be applied to a memory dump of the cartridge of the title. With a couple of minor exceptions, this patch translates the entirety of the game’s text. The group has plans to translate the third game in the series, but for now they plan on taking a break. The first Tokimeki Memorial Girl’s Side title saw a fan translation release near the end of last year, by a separate group under the name TokimemoGS1 Translation Team.

The fan translation group gokusaishiki has released a fan translation patch for the DS version of Konami’s Tokimeki Memorial Girl’s Side: 2nd Kiss.

There are a few minor things that are not translated by this patch because of technical problems the group had when trying to include them. These exceptions include the name entry screen while under the kanji, hiragana, and katakana tabs, a couple tutorial graphics, input screens, and the title of a particular page. Shortly after the first release of the the full translation patch, there were 2 updated patches released, each one fixing a problem which led to the game freezing. As of now, there do not appear to be any more problems, and unless more glitches are found the current patch will be the final version released by the group.

The Tokimeki Memorial: Girl’s Side games are an otome series of games that were spun off from the popular Tokimeki Memorial series. All the games in the Girl’s Side series have the player play as a female protagonist and include a number of romantic routes involving the guys in the game. With Tokimeki Memorial Girl’s Side: 2nd Kiss, you play as the same protagonist as the first game and have the option of either pursuing a story that begins with an accidental kiss with one of the guys, or where this does not happen and you approach the guys later on. Tokimeki Memorial: Girl’s Side: 2nd Kiss was originally released in Japan for the PS2 back in 2006 and then later released for the DS in 2008.

The TokimemoGS1 Translation Team has released a full translation patch for Konami’s otome title, Tokimeki Memorial: Girl’s Side 1st Love Plus. The translation patch was designed to work with the 2009 DS release of the game. This is close to the final patch and only minor errors and a few typos should remain. A translation of the second game in the series is also nearing completion.

This patch fixes a game crashing bug and a number of typos compared to an earlier release, however the translation group still recommends saving often in case there happen to be errors that were missed. This patch was designed only to work with the 2009 Love Plus version of the title, an attempt to patch the earlier 2007 release will fail. The translation patch requires a non provided working ROM of the game along with a program that can apply the patch to the ROM.

As the first Tokimeki Memorial: Girl’s Side title is released, a separate fan translation of the second game in the series, Tokimeki Memorial Girl’s Side: 2nd Kiss, nears completion . With the most recent update, a partial translation is in beta, and the full translation will likely be complete around the time the first beta is complete. In addition, this translation team plans to translate the third title in the series, Tokimeki Memorial Girl’s Side: 3rd Story in the future.

The Tokimeki Memorial: Girl’s Side series is an otome spin off of Konami’s popular Tokimeki Memorial series. The original series has a male protagonist and a number of endings with different girls in the games. In the Girl’s Side spin offs, the situation is reversed, you instead play as a female protagonist, and there are a number of routes centered around the guys in the games. The first title in the Girl’s Side series was released for the PS2 in 2002, then remade for the DS in 2007. Another remake, the Love Plus version of the title, was released for the DS last year. In the first Girl’s Side title, you play as a new student at Habataki High and there are endings for 10 different guys.

A fellow going by the handle “Nargrakhan” has started a letter writing campaign to Konami in the hopes that they will release Tokimeki Memorial 4 in English. The campaign website includes a synopsis of the game and character descriptions, as well as a FAQ section for common questions regarding the campaign.

Tokimeki Memorial is a fairly popular dating simulation franchise in Japan. In the first game in the series, the player selects the schedule for the male protagonist and the goal is to win the heart of one of the girls at his school. This franchise has expanded to a “Girl’s Side” spin-off series as well, where the player controls a girl whose goal is to win the affection of a guy. One direct-to-video animated adaptation exists of the original game, and an animated series based on the massively multiplayer online version of the game (which, by the way, flopped) also aired a few years back. Tokimeki Memorial 4 is the latest iteration in this series and was released in Japan for the PlayStation Portable at the end of 2009. The new iteration improves on the speech system from the older games, allowing the heroines to more naturally call out to the protagonist, and a video camera accessory can also be used with the game.

Tokimeki Memorial, the first game, had been the target of several attempts at fan translation, but none of those projects have come to fruition. Issues varied from the extraordinary length of text compared to the other console games being fan translated in the ROM hacking community, to hacking issues for the PlayStation version. The inability to play Tokimeki Memorial in English was actually one of the reasons behind the creation of Shira Oka, an original English dating simulation game.
