  • First two arcs of Higurashi available on iTunes App Store

July 29th, 2010, by zalas in Release, Translation

An English version of the first two arcs of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni has just been released by SEAMS on the iTunes App Store and runs on the iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad. The first arc is free to download and the second arc is priced at $3.99. Both apps are classified as “Books” on the iTunes App Store. These apps are ports of the MangaGamer releases of the games and the idea to port the game to iPhone was initiated by HOBIBOX, who handled the licensing aspects of Higurashi for MangaGamer and also publishes cell-phone ports of games in Japan. The Japanese version of Higurashi has been available as an iPhone App of the first arc that is free to download, but arcs after the first one are in-app downloads at 600 yen each.

UPDATE: The current pricing for the first two arcs appears to be promotional pricing until August 15.

    STORY

I wanted to know what’s outside the well.
So I tried to claw my way up from there.

I wanted to know what’s outside the well.
So I continued to climb even when I fell and injured myself.

    I finally realize.
The higher I climb, the more pain I feel when I fall.

When my curiosity toward the world and my physical pain became equal……
I finally understood the meaning of the frog in the well.

Minagoroshi(Massacre Chapter) – The final truth

    = = =

April 14th, 2010, by zalas in Release, Translation

MangaGamer has just released the sixth chapter of Higurashi, Tsumihoroboshi. This chapter focuses on Ryugu Rena and hints at what’s really going on in Hinamizawa. This is also the last part of Higurashi that was covered by the English-licensed first season of the animated adaptation. The game release is the same price as the fifth chapter and has pretty much the same level of script quality at a glance. However, this release uses a new font that is thicker/bolder with less serifs and likely easier to read than their previous font, and this is the first release to do so ever since the font poll.
