According to a post on the visualstyle Editor’s Diary, there has been talk of releasing a version of Itaru Hinoue’s (illustrator for Key’s Kanon, AIR, CLANNAD, Little Busters! and Rewrite) artbook overseas, which requires an English translation of the text in the artbook. visualstyle is a free monthly magazine released in both print and electronic form that features interviews and coverage of games released by Visual Art’s.

The following is a translation fo the diary entry in question:

This is my second post of the day. If I miss the June 26th deadline for the next issue of visualstyle, please blame it on this. (laugh)

Currently, there’s talk of releasing a version of Itaru Hinoue’s artbook overseas. Unfortunately, there are no plans to release that version domestically. We’d need to attach English explanations for this artbook, but the English translation process has been a painful uphill battle.

Recently, the lyrics “Okinawa~ Okinawa~” and thoughts of Miyakojima have been circling around in my head, making it quite difficult to work on English. If I don’t revive my English brain quickly enough, I’m going to collapse from my brain overheating.

By the way, if we just stick a sample line into a machine translator…
“この画集の表紙用に描き下ろされたイラストです” [This is an illustration drawn specifically for the cover of this art collection.]
becomes
“It is an illustration that drew for the cover of this picture collection and was lowered.”

It feels like I’m on a 100-game losing streak here…
Of course, if the artbook were just translated like that, I know we’d end up with some bizarre creation. And this is why I’m translating directly, even while my brain is overheating. The result is totally like a typical unpolished English translation produced by a Japanese person… (cry)

Someone~ please translate this into English~ (cry)

The post also includes an screenshot of the editor’s desktop, including the current work-in-progress opened up in Notepad. Sample translations include:

本画集の表紙用に描き下ろされたイラスト、『リトルバスターズ！』より神北小毬。
This illustration is one written only for cover of this Art book,Komari Kamikita(LittleBusters!).

This Kotori’s illustration was open to the public. It is a title announcement.Changing of her hair. What does it show?

UPDATE: A recent post on June 5 indicates that they have currently received at least 500 orders for the artbook. There was no indication in the post of where the orders were coming from.

For some reason, updates from translation projects always seem to be numerous around this time of year, so we’ll be keeping track of them in this post and update as we get incoming news…

First off, there seems to be a translation of Soul Link in the works.

Next up, AstCd2 and team have tackled the original visual novel, Shizuku.

We’ve just received word that mirror moon has dropped all their current projects and turned all their attention onto translating Tsukihime 2.

The websites for TLWiki and GamePatch seem to be offline…

mirror moon has put up a project page for Tsukihime 2.

The GamePatch website seems to be back up now…

Agilis reports that Narcissu Side 2nd is being bootlegged and sold on craigslist. We’ll update this if we get any more information.

JAST USA states that due to popular demand of their JAST USA Memorial Trading cards, they will be printing more and extending the set to 999 cards from their original 55. You can even collect JAST staff this way!

The third and final installment of the 12RIVEN demo video has been translated and posted.

Apparently, the Soul Link translation project is by a group called KyouKiKai and they have added a link to a beta patch of the trial version of the game.

And what do we have here? A sneak peek at a translated erotic scene from ef – the first tale!

For those of you who couldn’t find a copy of Tsukihime to buy, Hen Da Ne now has Tsukibako in stock for <strike>$100</strike>$60 each!

Sekai Project has announced a joint venture with 0verflow to officially localise School Days!

The Clannad translation project by Drama Club has been shut down due to copyright infringement.

Once upon a time long ago, a couple had attempted to translate the massive game of Clannad and founded the Clannad Translation Project. As with many projects of that time, real life unfortunately got in the way and the project had to be scrapped. After many months of sitting stagnated, the leader of the CTP finally announced that the project was dead.

Flash forward to five months ago. Long after the CTP had been deemed dead, various members of Haelethes Gemot decided to translate small portions of Clannad’s script into a thread for Japanese practice and just general fun. Since this was a purely enjoyment endeavor and not a translation project, scripts from various people came in from all portions of the games, some translating the beginning, some translating humorous scenes, and some translating the favorite parts of the game.

Now, with a possible 10% of the game translated on the Gemot, contributer dgreater1 and velocity7 decided to resurrect the Clannad Translation Project, but now in a different approach then the original. Taking a cue from the communal translation thread at the Gemot and the Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu novel translations, they have created a communal wiki for the translation, editing and proofing of Clannad. The project is actively looking for translators to contribute portions of translated script and to review other translator’s scripts.

More information and the project’s website can be found here.
