Updates on MangaGamer
July 18th, 2008, by in Translation
We’ve forwarded your suggestions and feedback on MangaGamer to the appropriate parties and they have responded, acknowledging the problems. Furthermore, we’ve gotten some clarification from MangaGamer regarding their DRM system and future patches. Future feedback for the Japanese companies and MangaGamer should be directed to a dedicated forum on Akiba Channel, as information on that forum will be forwarded directly to the right people.
UPDATE: A slightly edited version (for adult content) of the introductory video played at the Circus panel is now back on YouTube.

Anime Expo 2008 - A Chat with Circus
July 7th, 2008, by in Conventions
On Day 3 of Anime Expo 2008, we had a chance to sit down and talk with tororo, CEO of Circus, about the English localization project of games such as Da Capo and Suika AS+ in more detail. During the interview, tororo described the general outline of MangaGamer’s operation and responded to feedback we presented about the current state of the games. Furthermore, he’s open to what the fans think, including what level of quality would be “good enough” for the fans to purchase the game as well as what games they would like. Please leave your comments in response to this article and we’ll forward your suggestions to Circus.
UPDATE: Olf Le Fol talked to a representative at Japan Expo in Paris and posted his writeup. Among other things, the representative noted that the purchases made before the official opening of the site were of a beta version of the games, so the images we posted earlier may or may not reflect the finalized version of the games.

Circus held a mini-concert in front of their booth, featuring Cy-Rim rev. and Aina Kase and also presented a panel on their games later on, announcing the future availability of Da Capo and Suika AS+ in English. Okashi Studios presented a panel introducing the audience to ren’ai (romance) games. On July 5, 2008 at 8PM PDT we will be holding a live feed from the JAST panel.

The first day of Anime Expo 2008 did not bring much in terms of visual novels. We at encubed did manage to visit the exhibition floor to take a peek and also learned some information that may be of interest to TYPE-MOON fans. Lastly, we hope to hold a live webcast of the Circus panel on Day 2, so please check that site around 9:30PM PDT on July 4, 2008.
