As a heads up, please check back here regularly as encubed will be covering Anime Expo 2008. The first item of interest is what seems to be a new online game downloading service, called MangaGamer, slated to open on July 3, 2008, with Da Capo and Suika as their primary launch titles, plus some other interesting titles we’ve found after some searching.

    UPDATE 4:
All previously available titles are now available on July 10, 2008, instead.

    ADV
Question on Kanon 2006 Potential License
ADV Guy 1: Well, we’ll watch the sales of AIR TV and AIR Movie
ADV Guy 2: I think you should listen closely to the next couple con announcements.
    ADV Guy 1: Shuttup, watch the sales on how well AIR TV does >.>;;

    Right Stuf
Right Stuf has announced that the last DVD of ToHeart will have a limited edition version which will come with the box. It will be a 1,500 print run with each volume individually labeled with a serial number. Preorder from (most likely) rightstuf.com to get the box. According to Right Stuf, they estimate the boxes will be sold out either before the release (via preorders) or a couple weeks after its release.

When asked whether Right Stuf had an interest in licensing visual novels, they mentioned that they have currently not looked at that market.

  • The AX Notes: Day 1

June 30th, 2007, by zalas in Conventions, VisualNews

Welcome to VisualNews’ coverage of Anime-Expo 2007 in Long Beach, California.

Our pieces for AX coverage will be split up into two different sections, memos and notes. Notes will be a very quick overview and rundown of the day’s headlines while memos will be the detailed articles for each day that come a bit later. As much as a memo would be nice right now, we are only human (and thus need sleep), so hopefully tomorrow shall see the memo for day one.

    AX Notes: Day 1
Seven Seas picked up the Zero no Tsukaima light novels.
Bandai Visual grabbed Super Robot Wars OVA. TV series coming later.
Broccolli REALLY wants to bring Galaxy Angel 2 (Rune) and are looking into a way to do it. The president of Broccolli Japan made a “promise… maybe” to somehow find a way to get it over stateside.
JAST will have Pretty Soldier A.D. 2408 ready for Comikon, then after Comikon it will be available on their site.
JAST acquired the rights to Pulltop’s Princess Waltz.
JAST acquired the rights to the highly rated D.O. game, Kazoku Keikaku.

  • The AX Reports - Part 2: Hirameki Interview

July 10th, 2006, by zalas in Conventions, VisualNews

On July 4th, VisualNews had an opportunity to sit down and chat with Shinichi Shimura and Laura of Hirameki International at Anime-Expo. Discussions ranged from sales to Hirameki’s views on the current fan localization scene. We would like to thank Shimura-san for giving us time and answering our questions and to Laura for acting as a translator on Shimura’s behalf.
