Okashi Studios has now opened preorders for the Windows release of their dating simulation game, Shira Oka. It is currently available for preorder through the Impulse digital distribution service. The list price is set at $24.99 and there is a 10% preorder discount with Impulse. According to a post on the official website, the game is due to be released in a week, and those interested can download a trial version to test out the game.
Okashi Studios was originally formed around 2005 to develop a romance simulation game akin to the well-known Tokimeki Memorial series of games from Japan. In these types of games, the player plans out a schedule for the main character attending a high school. The schedule affects the overall development of the protagonist’s stats. Depending on the scheduling and stats, the protagonist can then encounter and interact with one of many potential girlfriends (or boyfriends, for the games aimed at girls). The player’s scheduling and choices during events generally determines the outcome of the game — who, if any, the protagonist ends up with.
Citing the lack of an ability to play these types of games in English, one of the founders set out to create one such game in English from scratch, and thus the game, Shira Oka, was born. Okashi Studios had toured conventions for a few years, and now with 5+ years of development, the game is finally near completion. The game’s story revolves around the protagonist, who finds himself transported back in time to his high school days, where he could choose to change how his high school life turned out. It features some voice acting by well-known dub actors, as well as some animation on top of the standard dating simulation game.
