Another doujin game maker allows fan translation

According to an addendum on the Dote Up a Cat release post, the project leader received an email from the doujin game circle #define allowing the project group to create and distribute an English patch for one of its games, Niji no Kanata ni, as long as the patch was free and that the original doujin circle takes no responsibilities for problems resulting from the patch. The project group has decided to tackle this game after they finish Dote Up a Cat.
Niji no Kanata ni is a game about a girl who is being treated by doctor for whom she shows affection. However, the situation they are in together is coming to an end, and the game explores the choices that the protagonist makes. #define is actually more well-known for their hypnosis-themed games, such as their M.C. series. They’ve also produced a “lighter” hypnosis game with Tenmaso, the illustrator from Whirlpool, called A Letter from Minami. Some of the titles from #define are available at the English side of DLsite (but the games are untranslated on the site), and their entire catalog appears to be available on the Japanese side (Maniax).
The email supposedly sent from #define is replicated below:
Dear Aeka
We are happy to hear about your offer, but we have two requests to you.1. The English patch must be free. We can not give you permission to get
money from an English patch.2. If an English patch makes any problem, we will not take any responsibility.
We will give you permission to make and release an English patch if you keep
these two requests.We attached the scenario of “Niji no Kanata ni” on this e-mail, and we think
it will help with your translating.We hope you do great work, and we hope you enjoy other games too.
After you finish to make an English patch, we would like you to contact us
again.We would like to enjoy the game with your English patch.

WHY….Why can’t other company make some permission like this (e.g: minori). It gives me sad tears to see them so selfish. :’(

I know its not a company, but its still sad that the company like minori is being selfish to their western fans.

It brings joy to my heart to know that there are still some creative circles in Japan that welcome and embrace fans of all races, national origins, and native languages.
Trust me, I don’t expect commercial producers to allow groups like NNL to give their entire works away for free, but in this case, it isn’t the free nature of the project that delights me so, it is the willful collaboration between the creators and the fans.
In a few hours, perhaps we will hear news from minori and NNL, and we will know whether or not this type of friendship can occur in the business world of today as well. Of course, even if things can’t work out between such belligerent parties as NNL and minori, there is still hope on this front with regard to, for example, a potential deal between the Sekai Project and Overfl0w (the leader of the former having posted some brief statements seeming to confirm this), or translation projects carried out by fans brokered by western companies such as Mangagamer.

Yes, __patch__ “must be free” but it does not mean that game itself is or must be free. The game is ¥735 at dlsite currently.

Picking up a copy now for $8.42….I emailed #define back to see if they will sell me a physical copy :S (not a fan of digital downloads when it comes to vn’s)
