Don’t forget Poland!

In an odd turn of events, a forum member on the gemot has posted an email that he supposedly received from Kiyobee, a person working at TYPE-MOON, in response to a technical question about translating Fate/stay night into Polish. The email was not an official response on behalf of the company, but rather included Kiyobee’s personal thoughts. Judging from the contents of the email, it looks like he personally is glad about spreading Fate/stay night to many people, although this cannot be construed as an official stance on behalf of TYPE-MOON.
The email contained both a machine-translated English version as well as the original Japanese version. The Japanese text in the email is as follows:
The following is an English translation, with comments by the translator in brackets:
Hello, I’m kiyobee, from TYPE-MOON.
I am sorry for the late response.First, please be aware that this is entirely my own personal reply, and not an official response [on behalf of TYPE-MOON].
Thank you for enjoying our game.
I’m very grateful that you are trying to spread this game to lots of people for us.I’d like to be able to help you with your problems if I can.
Fate stay/night’s script is written in a Japanese text encoding called ShiftJIS. Japanese and English are the only fully supported languages that will display properly in ShiftJIS, and Polish, the language you have been trying to get working, is not supported. Because of this, I’d imagine that problems can occur with Polish.
kirikiri [the Engine used in Fate/stay night] also supports Unicode, so perhaps you can first convert the entire script to Unicode and then change the text. Please give that a shot.
My English reading skills are not very good, so I apologize if I did not fully understand the problem.
I wish you the best of luck in your project.
Kiyobee (清兵衛) worked on the programming aspects of Fate/stay night and frequents the TYPE-MOON support BBS, helping users with technical issues such as games crashing.

Nice ^_^ Thanks Kiyobee

the response came from a programmer…. I wouldn’t read too much into it.
We [as programmers] see things differently compared to businesspeople point of view. We might see it as “alright” to include the sound track when shipping the physical copy of the game (gamers will get the RIP _anyway_), businesspeople will see it as a separate sale that gamers _need_ to pay for.
we might see it as “alright” for someone to freely localize the product that we helped make, businesspeople will see it as the lose of a potential licenses deal (even though it will never be licensed in that market!).

That’s certainly true. But thank god for people like this who don’t see business in everything and are willing to help fans in other countries.

wow, how welcome him :D

I’m guessing this is newsworthy because TYPE-MOON isn’t really open to the idea of allowing their games to be played overseas.
But didn’t insani receive permission from TYPE-MOON for the F/SN demo before?
September 5th, 2009 at 11:16 pm
No, the F/SN demo was done before insani wanted all its projects to be authorized by the copyright holders.
This is one reason why Planetarian is no longer supported (in short, that was then, this is now).

I hope this Kiyobee fellow don’t get in trouble for having this email published, even if he did state it’s not an official TYPE-MOON stance.
