After discussions with MangaGamer, the twins working on an English translation of Higurashi no Nakukoro ni have agreed to remove their translation patches for the game. They are currently looking into working with MangaGamer officially, hoping for a “good quality translation.” Translation had already started on Higurashi at MangaGamer, so the most probable way the twins will be helping out, if they do end up helping out, is through proofreading.

Not surprised
Personally, as much as I liked the twin’s translation, I would love to have Higurashi translated in it’s entirety by the end of the year or early next year, rather than years from now, hopefully with good quality. I would like though for the Twins to discuss with MangaGamer as to how specific things should be translated.

Why are all of you shocked?
Let the damn companies get their share of the cake and dont make things harder for them.
I myself would rather have a few broken prides and idiots less, than a company less, that brings us visual novel én masse.
Stopping a fan translation when a commercial translation IS underway should be the normal decision.
@shuffle, too.

@wut
Except that Onikakushi-hen is a free download, so the bulk of the Futagotachi’s work had been translating a freely available trial version into English. There was no reason to have them remove it from their website.
Well, I just hope that MangaGamer is considerate enough to offer their English release of Onikakushi as a free download, too.
