MangaGamer talks OVERDRIVE

MangaGamer, in an email from one of its staff, has confirmed rumors of plans to release OVERDRIVE’s Kira Kira, Edelweiss Eiden Fantasia and Kira Kira Curtain Call, but no date is set yet. Additionally, the email clarifies their new translation strategy.

There had been various reports of people asking MangaGamer about future games from OVERDRIVE and getting a positive response in the past few weeks. In response to an inquiry from encubed, the email clarifies that the above mentioned games “will be released for sure” and that the release schedule will be discussed in an upcoming shareholder meeting.

Additionally, the email states that MangaGamer’s new localization workflow will consist of a Japanese person, who currently resides in the United States, to do the translation, followed by a native speaker of English who can also understand Japanese to proofread the translation and then finally five to ten testers. From their description of the workflow and talking with one of the proofreaders, it seems that their proofreading position resembles more the rewriter position that is often used in localizations of Japanese print media.

MangaGamer had been recruiting proofreaders previously but they seem to have managed to fill their quota and are now looking for testers instead, according to their web site.

this is really some good news. Having 2 localisation companies is the best thing that happened to this small market.

I wander if JAST is going to do the same as MG and try to bring the Japanese companies into the English market* (removing the licenses cost in the process).

    * they will need to open a Japanese office and start selling from their, otherwise some of those title (if localised) might get them into some hot water in the USA.

Reading stuff like this makes me optimistic and hopeful for future releases.

Can’t wait to purchase Kira Kira especially since I enjoyed Edelweiss and TakaJun seems to hold OVERDRIVE games in high regard.

Also, Edelweiss seems to be getting a re-release for September 10 according to their site.

    More news regarding proofreader hirings:

    “Dear supporters,
We have received more than 100 applications for proofreaders. We
appreciate your interest in helping us to provide quality products. We
will make the decision on hiring proofreaders within 2 weeks. We are
still looking for game testers, especially those who use PCs with a
language other than English. Thank you again for your cooperation!!”

I’m a bit surprised that there’s that many applications for the position(s).

It’s already been past a year. When will Eiden Fantasia be released in English??? As a fan of the producers of Edelweiss and Kira Kira, I get discouraged everyday I check for the release date for the novel and it still says TBA. This is giving me the impression that mangagamer is slacking off fapping to other novels that would probably make shit for a storyline. And besides that I’m not the only frustrated anglophone waiting for this release, plenty of other people who have enjoyed Edelweiss and other Overdrive releases are also waiting. So ~ on behalf of all the people who are waiting, HURRY THE **** UP!

anybody get that kind of info in such an ideal way of writing?

I have a presentation subsequent week, and I’m at the look
